President, Society of British & International Design
Built Environment Category Winner 2013
I’m thrilled to be a finalist representative of businesswomen celebrating the contribution women make to the built environment. Externally as an industry sector it could incorrectly be considered male dominated. This award provides an opportunity to encourage all men in the industry to change that perception and champion women’s success.
Vanessa Brady is an international interior designer, with a multi award-winning design and consultancy practice, construction & fit-out business. The portfolio identified an industry sector gap which led her to launch the national standard-bearer not-for-profit organisation to the interior design industry, SBID. As the first British representative of the twenty year old European Council of Interior Architects it became the second largest membership organisation in four years.
Vanessa trained in business for the creative industries and specialised in interior fit-out design in Dorset then USA moving to London in 1983 as a partner of a property investment company, she negotiated her shareholding in exchange for business development. She has extensive management experience leading teams responsible for fit-out, business research, design and budget control. Working in sensitive and often on secretive projects; discretion, trust and loyalty are additional but equally important skills in the procurement of private projects and government operations.
In 2013 she launched The Vanessa Brady Foundation a charity promoting employment for graduates of the creative industries.
